Logistics

There are a number of logistical tasks that need to be undertaken when initiating an agile project:

  • Locate and secure a team room or area
  • Hold kick off meetings with key stakeholders and with the team
  • Set up user meetings - plan these as far as in advance as possible and get them in people's diaries
  • Create a "Task Board" in your team area
  • Fill up spare wall space in your team area with white boards and flipcharts
  • Ensure the team will have all they need to start development in the first Sprint: laptops/PCs, Source Control, power, network and Internet connectivity, development and test environments, etc...
  • Buy a kettle and a coffee percolator!

If at all possible the team should be collocated to maximise the team's ability to communicate and function as a unit. If a team has to be distributed across multiple sites and can not be collocated then this will impact the team output. In these cases do everything in your power to bridge the communication gap using facilities like telephone and video conferencing.
