Product Backlog

The Product Backlog is the most fundamental artefact in Scrum as it directs what is built. The most effective and efficient team will fail if it builds the wrong system.

The backlog is a prioritised list of functional and non-functional requirements along with a high level estimate for the amount of effort to turn each into completed element of the system. The Product Owner is responsible for maintaining the Product Backlog contents and ensuring that they are continually prioritised to match the needs of the business. Priority should be assigned based on the items of most value to the business or that offer the earliest Return on Investment. This list should evolve, changing as the business conditions or technology changes.
