Product Burndown by Sprint
Report Description
This Sprint by Sprint version of the Product Burndown chart gives a view of how the
team are performing on a Sprint to Sprint basis. It also show how new work and bugs are
adding to the total amount of work and hence whether the team will be able to complete
by the intended Release date.
The total height of each column (light + dark green) shows the total estimated Story Points or Days outstanding
for all uncompleted Product Backlog Items (Work Remaining) at the start of each sprint. The Burndown (light green) section
of the column shows the relative amount of work the team achieved in terms of the total Backlog Items "Done":
partially completed items do not count.
The Work Remaining (dark green) section of the column shows the total total estimated Story Points or Days of uncompleted
work as it was at the end of the Sprint.
New Product Backlog items, new Bugs or modified estimates for existing Prodcut Backlog items is added to the outstanding work
of the following Sprint. For this reason, it is common to see that the total amount of outstanding work has risen above the point
the team had burnt down to in the previous Sprint.
The trend line provides an indicator based on progress as to whether the team's velocity versus the rate at which work is
added will deliver the desired features by the desired Release end date (based on the Sprints configured in the Release).
If the oustanding work is changed dramatically through a re-estimation or descoping exercise, then the Linear Regression line
can provide an unduly optimistic or pessimistic prediction for completion time. This effect tends to even out over the passage of
a number of Sprints.
